The 27th International Voicing Award 2020 promoted by Focsiv is back with a special edition full of many new features. In addition to the two historical categories of the international volunteer and the volunteer from the south, two more have been added: that of the voluntary universal civil service in Italy during the Covid-19 emergency and the voluntary one for the Covid-19 emergency . In particular, these last two categories were created to give value and reward the great solidarity work carried out by the many volunteers, young and old, engaged in the front line, in our country, from the first moments in which the pandemic.

The event is part of the course of Padua European Volunteer Capital 2020 and takes place on Saturday 5 December, on the occasion of the World Volunteer Day announced by the United Nations.

I am convinced that, today more than at other times, it is important for our country to put the short term policy, economy and society at the center of attention, and in the drafting of the Italian strategic development plans. and in the long term, the role of volunteering, be it national or international. Without this commitment of over 6 million Italians, the founding and indispensable values on which our own welfare state rests and which allows, in some ways, to make communities cohesive would be lost. My affirmation is not accidental finds its incipit in having observed how the volunteers, since the first hours of the beginning of the pandemic and the consequent lockdown, have been, both in our country and in the many places abroad where we are present, at the forefront in hospitals, nursing homes, in serving in canteens, in packing packages of food, in supporting lonely people, in providing service.

They are the volunteers capable of understanding the needs of the territories and of being the glue of the communities. We must put their example in the agendas of politics and economics, made up of many responses, projects and actions that have allowed us not to give in during the months of closure and which give hope in starting again. Our choice of vo¬ler, therefore, to reward emergency volunteers together with international ones is part of this line and organizing the delivery ceremony in the European capital of volunteering is aimed at reiterating a broader vision the role of volunteering as builders of a more equitable, fairer, more welcoming and inclusive Europe for all. Nobody excluded.
