Dirty feet

At Easter, we wash our feet. We retrace the gesture of Jesus towards the disciples. Peter's answers are thought of. One hears Jesus saying “whoever has taken a bath is all clean, if not the feet”. Dirty feet, what's left. What remains is what you see when you are at home, in the family, when you take off the shoes you always keep on your feet.

How hidden our feet are in our daily lives! We know each other at home, we all know what remains “unclean” even after we have taken a bath. These are the feet that are to be loved. Only to those who know you well and look at you always loving you can you let them wash, it takes courage and abandonment and respect given and received. However, it is not enough. Over time we must also learn not to be afraid of the dirty feet of others we love, otherwise how do we wash them? Little by little we must also grow in knowing how to see and look at them. A frightening weakness does not leave us free to take care of it. Jesus had already completely washed his friends, on the last day he looked at their dirty feet, washed them, and loved to the end what they had always hidden.
