Grafts

In every family, there is a continuous movement of growth. We all see it, we live it. How many different attitudes can arise! We may want to raise our children as we like, risking taking away the freedom that allows them to mature. You can watch your children grow up as if it were an external show, harboring many expectations but failing to achieve truly deep involvement in their adventures. Finally, you can watch your children grow, with an active and involved, but not intrusive, attitude. You watch them from the right distance and are on guard to support and encourage where necessary. Like an expert supporting actor in a story that is written to make the main actor shine, emerging and with great hopes: you know that you can't steal the scene because it's his time.
It is a role that we must accept, even if with great difficulty. It's about not interfering too much when our children are young and knowing how to find a way to dialogue when they have grown up, resisting the storm of the teenager, his eloquent silences. Like when a graft on a plant improves the quality of the fruit, does not modify the root and gives greater strength to what originates from it, it is a matter of adding without distorting, supporting without replacing, letting go without abandoning.
