Giuliana Baldinucci lives in Gubbio; she is 73 years old, but her heart is young and her legs are not afraid of challenges. Last spring she decided to embark on a new adventure that also had the flavor of solidarity; she herself says: «During the lockdown I started walking and I discovered the pleasure of it, then I thought of challenging myself to see how far I could go. The Via Francigena and also a Via di San Francesco pass through Gubbio and I saw many pilgrims passing by and I said: "Why don't I do it too?". Then the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Gubbio told me: "Why don't you walk through the Anti-violence Centers?"; from there the project to raise funds for these centers was born ».

In June, in just two weeks, he traveled the road that leads to Rome, about 200 km, with the aim of making all the people he met aware of the issue of violence against women, encouraging those who find themselves in trouble and raise funds. "It is a good example that I give to my family and in my opinion also to women who live in difficult situations because they have the strength within themselves to react to any situation, but they have to get used to bringing it out".
During the journey she also commented with these words: «The intention is to arrive in Rome; I don't know if I'll make it, but in the meantime I keep walking. I have not booked everything, but day by day I see where I can get: this is the beauty of walking and also the beauty of life; we often plan everything and then the surprise arrives and we find ourselves displaced, instead when the unexpected arrives we face it and see how it can be solved ».

In the end, Giuliana made it, with the awareness that what matters is the journey: never stop believing in it, know how to face the unexpected events of the journey with determination, be in solidarity because only together is it possible build a better world. It teaches us that we are all on the same path, no matter if from Gubbio to Rome, from Jerusalem to Jericho or anywhere else: the important thing is to walk, do it for someone and let yourself be questioned by the facts and the people you meet.
