LYL E LOVETT – IN MY OWN MIND
The guitar riff here is wicked, four-note-four, which dominates the entire song and sticks in your ear and never lets go. Not that Lovett needs these tricks to be heard: he remains, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful living American voices. But a little help doesn't hurt, and the song flows smoothly and is truly enjoyable to listen to. The arrangement and orchestration are impeccable, even if it's very simple. Ballad
NEIL YOUNG – BIRDS
The chorus that opens in the chorus transports you to another world. It takes you elsewhere, above the clouds: spectacular views, open spaces, solitude. Neil is unique in these lopsided, dry, short ballads that seem to have no reason but instead sink you in, because they strike that most defenseless part of your heart. He knows it, he plays with it a lot, and you're left there, like a fool, hearing it again and again. Eterna
SIMON & GARFUNKEL – BOOKENDS
One minute and eighteen seconds of pure poetry. There's not much else to say except that you're in suspense from the start to the end. I don't know how our guys came up with something like this, which is more of a chorus than a song, which seems thrown together hastily, but instead displays immense class. Great.
