SIMON & GARFUNKEL – SO LONG, FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
The poetry of Simon & Garfunkel remains eternal. Two voices, a guitar, a wandering little flute, a tumpa-tumpa percussion, not much else… Yet there is magic. Today – in fact, always – that is what makes the difference between a nice song and something that sweeps you away. Here, it’s the voices that are magical. They make you dream, dance, laugh. Thank you for existing.
JOSHUA JAMES – MYSTIC
This one has something special. A broken voice, deep silences alternating with a saturated and overwhelming sound, you can’t quite figure the song out, it unsettles you… but you like it. You don’t look for logical reasons, because there are none. Yet it’s unique, elusive, it comes and goes, runs and stops, screams and falls silent. Hypnotic.
FAIRGROUND ATTRACTION – JOCK O’HAZELDEAN
Ok, timbre in a voice isn’t everything, but here… yes, it is. A singer who carries the band and not the other way around; in this song Eddi Reader knocks me out. For her simplicity, her confidence, for what she doesn’t say but lets you sense, even for the vocal runs I usually can’t stand. A song with almost nothing, made of air, of light and shadows, chiaroscuro. Graceful.
