LUTHER VANDROSS – DANCE WITH MY FATHER AGAIN
Short life, meteoric success – 40 million records and no fewer than 8 Grammy Awards – they called him The Velvet Voice, and I must say, they weren’t wrong. A heartbreaking song, a bit on the sweet side, perhaps, yet one that scratches the soul for the intensity of the sound, with all the pauses in exactly the right places and a top-level arrangement. Mucho sentimiento.

MONICA MARTIN – DON’T THINK TWICE, IT’S ALL RIGHT
How many covers are there of this Dylan song? Maybe it’s because the tune just grabs you, and I must say, they’re right: a great piece, whichever way you turn it. Here this girl turns it around with a voice that really gets under your skin: she does embellish, it’s true, but with the timbre she has, you hardly even notice. Nice arrangement with piano and guitar, very basic; she has a singular voice, low notes, very charming: she sets the tone of the piece and makes it unique. Soulfly.

ANGELS & QUEENS – GABRIELS
Soul and R’n’Blues of our times, crossed over with other genres that pop up out of nowhere from time to time. You don’t need to be a sophisticated music critic to understand that here it is the truly unique voice of Jacob Lusk that clears the field. Beyond him, however, there is original writing, with the addition of orchestra and choirs that come in and out with mastery. So not only a superb singer, but an equally good musical idea. A song that throws you off balance, unusual but winning structure, dazzling sounds. Cool.
