FABRIZIO DE ANDRÈ – VERDI PASCOLI
A little-known song by Faber, on that spectacular album with the Indian cover. A curious song, a half-reggae, with Lescano trio backing vocals, a slightly Baravantano drum solo, lyrics that disorientate you because they are unusual, but you immediately recognize the lion's paw. Even with a song like this he makes poetry like this. Fun
CHRIS ROBLEY – TRUER THAN THEM ALL
A minute and thirty-one ballad is not so often heard. You have to be sure of your means just to think about publishing it. If you then publish it, as a single as well, then it means you really believe in it. Chris wins the bet in my opinion. Effective melody, engaging arpeggio, bass as dark as the night, standard backing vocals, Hammondino that comes out mischievous and then goes haywire… In short, a certain originality in a trite and hackneyed genre. Truly not banal. Like a thief in the night
DOC WATSON – BIRD DOG
Come on! Why are you obsessed with bluegrass, here crossed with rockabilly by that phenomenon who answers to the name of Doc Watson, guru of American music for a thirty-plus years. The song is not too loaded, quick at the right point, it says something, not just the speed of the musicians. In fact, I like bluegrass because it gives joy, but it annoys me when you have to be the fastest banjo in the West. Soft.
