On April 12, another protagonist of Italian fashion, Roberto Cavalli, passed away.
Born in 1940, the famous Florentine designer is known internationally above all for his skilful use of animalier and denim. He trained in the artistic field thanks to the influences of his grandfather Giuseppe Rossi, an exponent of the Macchiaioli movement and thanks to his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he specialized in textile applications. She soon learned to play with materials, prints and colours, bringing a sensual and spirited woman onto the catwalk right from the start in the early Seventies. The beginnings in Paris, then in Florence and Milan with his ready-to-wear line Just Cavalli. The workmanship and interpretation of materials highlight a profound knowledge of fashion at the service of strong and bold women.
In 2015 he proceeded to sell the maison to an investment fund and, shortly afterwards, also abandoned the role of creative director. Many stylists have succeeded one another at the helm of the brand, up to the current Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi, who digs into the archives to hark back to the origins of the brand for a collection that is perhaps more mature but still rigorously rock.
