FOR THOSE WHO DON'T REMEMBER, I LEFT YOU WITH HALF OF AN ARTICLE LAST MONTH because I was waiting to find out if I had some kind of learning disability. Well, the result is here... drum roll... and yes, I will still (and forever) be able to use this excuse for not finishing school and a myriad of other things. I'm like Michael Jordan and Justin Timberlake, I too have ADHD.
At the time, I have to say that, in a certain sense, I welcomed the answer with a sigh of relief, especially because I was already dreading the jokes my son would make, waiting for me to mock me.
It was immediately liberating, as if all those "you don't apply yourself" things I'd been hearing all my life suddenly vanished, and for a couple of days, I felt lighter.
But, since we're never satisfied, I started thinking about all the things I could have done if I'd found out sooner. And it wasn't a great moment. I confess, without shame, that I cried a little. Then a story my grandfather told me came to mind. "You know, kid, I'll tell you something: during World War II, I told my lieutenant I was terrible at shooting, and do you know what he said?" I replied, "No, Grandpa." He said, "Don't worry, I'm terrible at cooking." Then I thought that making peace with our past is a beautiful prospect that is always before us. And I said to myself, "Good luck, Andrea!"
